Acorn International Summer School is a unique, family run,  summer school concept for children aged between 7 and 12 years. Here they can learn academic English,  whilst gaining a truly British boarding school experience, in an exciting location set in the heart of England, yet within easy travelling distance of many internationally renowned places of interest.

Our course is especially designed and written for 7 – 12 year olds and offers a fully inclusive programme that targets the specific educational and pastoral needs of such an age range. Whereas many other summer schools offer junior places, they are often integrated in to senior programmes and children are expected to mix with teenagers up to the age of 18. This is not a good combination because young children should not have to deal with the influences or behaviour of teenagers and young adults. We understand the needs of younger children and offer a nurtutring ‘home from home’  environment that any parent would feel confident leaving their child in. Our teachers are all both primary and EFL trained specialists with significant teaching experience between them. The pastoral staff are led by a fully qualified matron and are all highly experienced in working in a boarding environment with young children. Unlike other summer schools we do not recruit young or inexperienced pastoral staff because we want each child to receieve the highest level of pastoral care at all times.

The junior programme consists of:

  • 10 hours of English classes a week,
  • 10 hours of cross curricular primary school subjects, including maths, geography, history, British studies,
  • art, science and music.
  • 5 hours of integrated sports lessons with the option of additional private or group sports coaching sessions.
  • A busy social programme that allows children to experience true British culture, famous British cities and attractions as well as traditional activities such as beach games and countryside walks.

Our experience and commitment to working with children in small groups means that you can rest assured that your child will receive the highest quality teaching and care while they stay in England. In addition, the academic nature of the course means that your child has the best opportunities to make significant improvements to their spoken and written English through enjoyable and well planned lessons and activities. Lessons are based on a different theme each week and educational and social excursions are planned in to the programme of study to ensure that children get hands on experience to compliment their in class learning.
