The north of England is a stunning location for a summer school. It is packed with icons of British culture spanning over two thousand years; from the atmospheric Roman remains of Hadrian’s Wall to the bright and noisy shopping centres of Meadowhall in the steel city of Sheffield and the Trafford Centre in Manchester, not to mention Old Trafford Stadium; the home ground of the world famous Manchester United! The North of England is a vibrant and exciting place to learn English, get a taste of true British culture and have a great time. Click on the ‘Welcome to Yorkshire’ video to the right of this page for a true taste of what the area has to offer.

Thousands of years of British history and culture can be enjoyed on the doorstep of the school. The Romans, Vikings and Normans all left their mark on the area with Roman bath houses, Norman castles and medieval cathedrals all living testimony to real people who settled here in the past. Stately homes such as the immense Castle Howard (the location for two films) and the more intimate Nunnington Hall are littered across the landscape.

The major cities of Manchester and Leeds are easily accessible along with the historic county town of York with stunning cultural facilities, the race course and fantastic shopping. London is just two hours away from York by train so even the capital is within easy reach.

Britain’s first seaside resort, Scarborough, is nearby as too are other seaside towns such as Whitby, the scary setting for Bram Stoker’s Dracula story!

Manchester International airport, Newcastle International Airport and Liverpool John Lennon Airport are all around a 2 hour drive away and even London Airports are just 4 hours drive (2 hours by train) so getting to the school couldn’t be easier. Private transfers to and from most airports can be arranged for a small charge.

The north of England, with its slower pace of life and friendly local people provides children with a great place to learn English and experience all that Britain has to offer, whilst still maintaining fantastic links with the rest of the UK. Throughout this website you will find photographs of key locations, as mentioned in this section, which you can click on to enlarge – we hope that they give you a small taste of what is available near to the school.
